Kenderton Health Fair
Thursday 5/26/2016, Kenderton School, 8:00a.m. - 1:00p.m.
A tradition at Temple, the Kenderton Health Fair will feature student organizations educating tomorrow's minds. From yoga stretches with the kids to the X-Ray scavenger hunt to dropping watermelons and illustrating helmet safety in the past, student groups will host exhibits at Kenderton for elementary to middle school aged students. Event Title: End of the Year Celebration
Friday 5/27/2016, Room 319, 11:00a.m. - 1:00p.m.
Join Students Engaging in Health Policy for an end-of-year celebration, right after our end-of-year exam! There will be FUN food (not pizza!!!) and we will have info about how you can keep up with the presidential election over summer break!

2 bd/1ba apartment for rent located in the Fairmount/Art Museum area at 2601 Pennsylvania Ave.. The apartment has been renovated and includes 2 big bedrooms, ample closet space, hardwood floors, a gorgeous kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances and a washer/dryer. The building has a 24hr doorman, a gym, yoga studio and a free shuttle that runs to center city. Free street parking is available around the building and Temple is a short 10-15min drive or there is a SEPTA station within walking distance. Just a few reminders from the SFC Activities and Operations Office
 
May 15th at 5pm  is the deadline for all active HSC organizations to re-register and submit funding requests for the Fall 2016 semester.

Event Title: Nicaragua Preparation/Education Meeting

Dr. Garg and Mary Laxton, PA-C will be speaking to us about preparing for our trip and educating us regarding various diseases that we may encounter while in Nicaragua, respectively. All Temple GMB members that will be going to Nicaragua are required to attend.


Radiology Interest Group
Event Title: From Theory to Practice: Solving Neurology Cases from the Perspective of a Neuroradiologist

Monday 5/16/2016, Room TBD, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.​

Join us with Dr. Faro to discuss patient neurology cases as a throwback to Block 5! He will be relating how we can use brain imaging to localize lesions and diagnose brain conditions. Dr Scott. H. Faro is a Neuroradiologist and brain imaging expert. He was a past President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology and at Temple, he is Professor and Vice Chairperson of Radiology, Director of Neuroradiology, and Director of the Brain Imaging Center

Babcock Surgical Society
Event Title: Laproscopic Surgical Skills Workshop
Monday 5/16/2016, Room 219, 12:00p.m. - 1:00p.m.
Babcock Surgical Society will be hosting a laparoscopic surgical skills workshop with Dr. Philp on Monday, May 16th from 12-1 PM. There is space for 10 students to attend. If you would like to participate, notify Holly Jordan (hjordan@temple.edu) as soon as possible and she will add you to the list.

Orthopedic Interest Group
Event Title: X-ray Workshop

The Orthopedic Interest Group will be hosting an X-ray conference with ortho residents and attendings. Come learn about the important aspects of imaging as a diagnostic tool and how to best approach reading an X-ray to gain the most information about your patient. Lunch will be provided.

AMSA and Dr. Garg are holding the annual Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and CPR workshop! This Thursday, May 19, at12PM, come join us to learn these skills - they will be very useful during clinic years.

Integrative Medicine Interest Group
Event Title: Mindfulness Meditation Lunchtime Talk
Thursday 5/19/2016, Room 319, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.​
Join the Integrative Medicine Interest Group for a discussion led by Temple's own Dr. William Heran on the practice of mindfulness meditation. In the years since Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, mindfulness meditation has been recognized as a valuable complementary therapy to assist patients living with a multitude of health conditions. Learn more from Dr. Heran about how this practice can be beneficial to both you and your future patients over a FREE lunch. All are welcome. We hope to see you there!

Event Title: Be The Match Bone Marrow Drive!

Did you know that 70% of all patients to need a bone marrow transplants don’t have a fully matched donor in the family? Next week, on Monday, May 9th from 12-5 the Hematology/Oncology interest group will be running a bone marrow registry drive sponsored by the Be The Match Registry® . By simply providing a swab of your cheek, you can join the registry and potentially save a life in the future. Hope to see you all there!

As we approach the 2016 Presidential Elections, it's increasingly evident that politics has a hand in just about every aspect of our lives. This is especially true for us, as future physicians, since the ethics and economics of healthcare have been hotly debated by the presidential hopefuls. Consequently, regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, it is undeniable that "Clinical is Political." Come join us on Wednesday, May 4th as Dr. Michael Fraser discusses this topic with us, and shares with us what we can do about it. Of course, a non-pizza, non-hoagie lunch will be provided!
