Dr. Walter Tsou is a past president of the American Public Health Association and former health commissioner of Philadelphia. He is a founding member of the National Board of Public Health Examiners and a board adviser to Physicians for a National Health Program. An expert on health reform and health care financing, Dr. Tsou frequently briefs members of Congress on health care issues. Lunch will be provided. ENT Research Medical Student Panel Monday 11/30/2015, MERB 217A/B, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. Whether you are interested in getting a competitive residency or expanding your scientific interests, research is a fantastic extracurricular activity to get into. The ENT Interest Group will host a panel of medical students currently doing ENT specific research. These students can give their personal insights on how to get a position, which attendings to speak to, or any other general questions you may have. Global Medical Brigades Info Session Friday 11/20/2015, Room 317, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. Every year, the Global Medical Brigades team travels with Temple doctors to Honduras for a week in the beginning of the summer. We set up a temporary clinic in rural Honduras, and provide free healthcare to over 800 community members, traveling with all of our medications and supplies. It's a fantastic opportunity to get global health experience without committing your entire summer, and Spanish skills are NOT required! Temple University Neurosurgery Society Tuesday 11/10/2015, MERB 105, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. The Temple University Neurosurgery Society is a new group on campus hoping to promote student interest and foster an appreciation for all things Neurosurgery! We are incredibly excited to be having our first event of the year with a lunchtime talk featuring Dr. Erkmen, the Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program here at Temple. Ophthalmology Student Interest Group - Ophthalmology Physical Exam Learning Event Tuesday 11/10/2015, MERB 319A&B, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. Hi OSIG! We have scheduled an instruction session in physical diagnosis for Tuesday, November 10, from 12pm-1pm. The session will cover both examination techniques with the ophthalmoscope and the measurement of intraocular pressure using a tonopen. Marty Schardt, the ophthalmology research coordinator, will be in attendance to communicate some of the more subtle tricks of the ophthalmologic exam and to discuss ongoing research in the ophthalmology department. Following the formal instruction, we will move to the Sim center for a practice session that will give everyone a chance to polish his or her ophthalmoscopic technique. Yesterday marked the start of the yearly Philabundance food drive. Philabundance is a fantastic organization that works to provide food to the community. If you’d like to read more their website is: http://www.philabundance.org/ Every year SGA runs a food drive and donates everything to Philabundance just before Thanksgiving. It is also a competition between the classes, 2016+2018 vs 2017+2019. Whichever class donates the most gets $250 to their SGA which can use the funds for whatever to benefit the class.
