Institute for Healthcare Improvement - Health Quality Panel

Join us for our interprofessional panel of healthcare quality improvement!

Temple's new chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement is hosting its first faculty panel! Hear from the experts of the Schools of Business, Nursing, Medicine and more on the challenges and goals of improving the quality of healthcare practice and delivery. Dinner will be served, so come feed your mind and your stomach on ways that we can make hospitals more efficient, safer and successful!

Keynote Speakers include: 

● Dr. Marissa Cavaretta, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice

● Dr. Herbert Cushing, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Temple University Hospital, Professor of Clinical Medicine, and former Medical Director at Indiana University Medical Physicians

AMWA - Why Women Still Can't Have It All: Anne-Marie Slaughter

Please join AMWA Monday November 16th for lunch and a discussion of the Anne-Marie Slaughter article "Why Women Still Can't Have It All." We will be viewing video and discussing her article in The Atlantic. This will be an event in preparation for our upcoming December female physician panel headed by Dr. Darilyn Moyer. Dr. Moyer is the Program Director for Temple's Internal Medicine Residency Program, Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education, and the Department of Medicine's Vice Chair for Education. She has promised a wide variety of female physicians willing to share their stories with us.

Radiology Interest Group - Introduction to Interventional Radiology

Book Club and Temple Music and Arts - Life Beyond Medicine
Wednesday 11/18/2015, MERB 343, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.

Dr. Bennet Lorber will be coming to give a talk on his experience as an infectious disease physician and more importantly on his ability to maintain a life beyond medicine/school (something that many of us struggle with). Many of Dr. Lorber's paintings can be found all over MERB and his creative endeavors can inspire others to find the time for the humanities.

Medical Students for Choice is screening the movie "After Tiller" in two parts, this Wednesday and Thursday. After the murder of Dr. George Tiller in 2009, the United States was left with only four physicians who perform third trimester abortions. This film explores the challenges they face in providing this procedure as well as the difficult decisions that lead their patients to seek it. 

Lunch will be provided.

Puentes de Salud Info Session: Learn about Volunteer and Student Leadership Opportunities!

Puentes is a non-profit clinic on 17th and South Street that serves the Latino community in South Philly with medical and social services. Come learn how you can help support this wonderful organization!

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer at Puentes de Salud? Do you want to take a more active role in the clinic and apply for a student leadership position? Come to the Puentes de Salud info session in room 305 to learn all about it! You'll hear from Temple M2s who are current Student Leaders/Coordinators at Peuntes so you can learn about the roles and requirements of the positions and learn about the other volunteer opportunities at Puentes. 

Applications for leadership positions for Student Coordinators at Puentes are available NOW! Come with your questions and we'll be here to answer!

Lunch will be served: hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, fruit salad, and dessert!

IHO - India Summer Trip Info Session

Come learn about the global health trip to Kerala, India over the summer. After the info session, applications will be opened for submission.

A presentation about the Orthopedics Summer Research Program with Joanne Donnelly, the Research Coordinator, as well as a few students who participated in the program this past summer.

Global Medical Brigades Info Session
Friday 11/20/2015, Room 317, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.

Every year, the Global Medical Brigades team travels with Temple doctors to Honduras for a week in the beginning of the summer. We set up a temporary clinic in rural Honduras, and provide free healthcare to over 800 community members, traveling with all of our medications and supplies. 

It's a fantastic opportunity to get global health experience without committing your entire summer, and Spanish skills are NOT required! 

Come join us for an info session about a global medicine opportunity in the summer, and how to get involved with leadership. 

Non-pizza lunch will be provided!

SMNA Regional Conference
Saturday 11/21/2015, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.


Join SNMA for our annual regional conference Saturday November 21st at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine 8-4pm for workshops, networking, residency & medical school recruitment fair, and much more!!
