SNMA Event Title: Suffering In Silence: The Stigma of Being Black and Mentally Ill Event Date: 2/8/17 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 219 Description for Weekly Announcements: Join us for a discussion on stigma and representation of mental illness in the black community. This event is a part of SNMA's Black History Month series and we will be joined by Temple psychiatrist Dr. Commodore. Lunch will be provided. Medical Humanities Interest Group Event Title: Silver Lining's Playbook and Mental Health Event Date: 2/9/17 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 319 Description for Weekly Announcements: The Medical Humanities Group will be watching several clips from Silver Lining's Playbook movie, which highlight two prominent mental disorders: Bipolar Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Alongside Dr. Gluzman, a Temple University psychiatrist and preceptor in Parkinson College, we will discuss the clips and their relevance to actual patient, family, and psychiatrist experiences with Bipolar Disorder and OCD. A delicious lunch will be provided!! :) SGA Event Title: "It Takes Philly" Event Date: 2/8/17 Event Start Time: 9:00 AM-12:30 PM Description for Weekly Announcements: Like kids? Like medical school? Then, join us on Wed, Feb 8 when LKSOM hosts a medical career interest fair for 8th grade students from underserved schools. The goal of the day is to introduce students to healthcare careers and inspire them towards such possibilities. We'll be setting up exhibits for the kids, including ultrasound, EKG & heart health, brain anatomy, bone health, and intro to CPR. Responsibilities include leading the 8th graders through exhibits or teaching at one of the exhibits from already prepared materials. MS3 & MS4's are encouraged to reach out to [email protected] if interested.
