Campus Activities and Events
  1. School Health Screenings -- 7:45a-3:05p, Wednesday, 9/28 @ Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School, 1414 E Cedar St.
    St. Luke’s Community Health is assisting Penn State Pro Wellness in conducting health screenings (height, weight, hearing, vision and scoliosis) at the Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School (1414 E Cedar St., Allentown) on September 28th, 29th and 30th. These sessions will provide us with the proper training to assist our Adopt-a-Schools in expediting the health screening process and allow for more time throughout the year to connect K-12 students with care. We still need volunteers for: Wednesday, September 28th – 7:45a-3:05p: 4 volunteers still needed. Thursday, September 29th – 7:45a-3:05p: 4 volunteers still needed.   2. SGA and Student Organization Group Yearbook Photos -- 12p, Wednesday, 10/5 @ Outside, Front of Estes Blg (rain location is Estes ground floor)
    We will be taking pictures of our SGA reps and student organizations for the 2017 Skull on Wednesday, October 5th beginning at 12pm, outside in front of the Estes Building (Estes Lecture Rooms and Small Groups room are rain location.) These photos are not only for present and past leaders, but for all students who have interacted or participated with the group! The rough order of group photos will be available next week (note: HEARTS will take their photo prior to their Oct. 8th clinic.) For each photo, the default dress code is professional with white coat, unless otherwise specified by the group’s leaders and Dr. Dave. Please contact the Yearbook Editors- Lucas Tsikitas (tud21866@temple.edu) and Abby Gotsch (tuf29785@temple.edu)- and Dr. Dave with any general questions or concerns.

    Come out to hear from a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. Molly Talley is the Director of Residency and Student Relations. She has wonderful insight on the state of family medicine in Pennsylvania and will be full of tips for students and future residents alike!
  4. HEARTS Clinic -- 8a, Saturday, 10/8 @ Broughal Middle School
    The October HEARTS clinic will be held on Saturday, October 8th at Broughal Middle School. It is a great opportunity to take on your own patients, practice H&P's, and do some education. We are are looking forward to having a great clinic!   5. Volunteers Needed for Runner’s World Half Marathon Weekend: October 14-16, 2016 @ Bethlehem
    St. Luke’s is once again is the Exclusive Medical Partner for the Runner’s World Half & Festival taking place in Bethlehem on the weekend of October 14-16, 2016. Medical providers are needed to help staff the first aid tents throughout the course and at the main medical tent at the finish line. All volunteers will receive a technical race shirt.   6. Volunteer/Service Opportunity at Bethlehem High Schools
    There is an opportunity for Temple/St. Luke's students to volunteer at Liberty and Freedom High Schools' PLTW Biomedical Class (an advanced class for high school students interested in medical sciences). As was done last year, we will design and present interactive medical lessons and mentor labs (i.e. animal dissections) to fit in the course curriculum. The commitment can be for a single day or for several throughout the academic year. A fun way to sharpen your teaching skills, complete the annual service commitment, and beef up your resume. If interested, contact Neelabh Maheshwari (tue80604@temple.edu) or Christina Wong (tuf08474@temple.edu).

  4. Future Event: Visiting Professor: Ken Liechty, MD – 7am, Wednesday 11/2, Laros Auditorium
    Dr. Liechty is the Sandy Wolf Chair in Maternal Fetal Surgery, Co-Director of the Colorado Fetal Care Center Children's Hospital Colorado, Professor of Pediatrics & Surgery/ Department of Pediatric Surgery, and Director of Pediatric Surgery Basic and Translational Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (more about Dr. Liechty[ucdenver.edu]).
    – 7am – Multi-Departmental Grand Rounds: Pediatric “Syndromes” Every Physician Should Know
    – 8am-9am – Visiting Professor Education Session with Medical Trainees: 30 minutes on “Pediatric appendicitis: Operate or Not to operate”; then 30 minutes on “Necrotizing enterocolitis management.” Cases will be presented by SLUHN residents

    Supports women's fitness and women with breast and gynecologic cancers. THERE ARE TWO (2) STEPS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE.
