Event Date: 10/10/16
Event Time: 12:00 PM -
1:00 PM
MERB 217

According to a study done by Project Home, at any given point in time, the City of Philadelphia estimates we have an average of 650 people living on the streets, 300 of whom are in Center City. You'll be hard pressed to find a specialty in Philadelphia that isn't affected by the high number of homeless people in our city and the subsequent challenges encountered during their care. Dr. Natasha Dalseth from Temple's Episcopal Hospital will be joining us to discuss her expertise on the common crossroads of homelessness and mental illness in our city and beyond. Join us to learn how to best understand and serve one of the populations in Philadelphia that needs our help the most.

Pediatric Interest Group
Event Title: Boggy Creek Information Meeting
Event Date: 10/11/16
Event Time:

The Pediatric Interest Group will be having a meeting to discuss our annual trip to Camp Boggy Creek! Camp Boggy Creek is a camp down in Florida that "offers children with serious illnesses & their families a free, safe and medically-sound camp environment." Each year PIG is allowed to take a handful of first and second years to the camp for a long weekend in January!! Come out to the meeting to learn about the application process and how you can get chosen to go!

Med Students For Choice
Event Title: Trapped Documentary Screening
Event Date: 10/12/16
Event Time: 12:00 PM -
1:00 PM
MERB 219A/B

Come join Med Students For Choice for a non-pizza lunch and viewing of the documentary Trapped. In light of the SCOTUS decision striking down these laws this past summer, come learn about why it is important to continue to advocate for women's choices and women's health. About the film: U.S. reproductive health clinics are fighting to remain open. Since 2010, 288 TRAP (Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers) laws have been passed by conservative state legislatures. Unable to comply with these far-reaching and medically unnecessary measures, clinics have taken their fight to the courts. As the U.S. Supreme Court decides in 2016 whether individual states may essentially outlaw abortion (Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt), Trapped follows the struggles of the clinic workers and lawyers who are on the front lines of a battle to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women.

Message about "The Progress Note"; A new student run Temple Health Professions blog:

Small group discussion with SNaHP Chapter and other students in social justice groups, following his noon
talk on Single Payer.

Please check out the information below on a new health professions blog. For more information, please contact Danielle Verghese at [email protected].

Check out "The Progress Note," your friendly, neighborhood blog on the life and times of students in the health professions!

For those of you new to our site, we are a student-run, interprofessional blog aimed at capturing the thoughts and experiences of our future colleagues.  We aim to do this in a number of ways:

Blog Posts - If you have a thought you'd like to share, a cool story to reflect on, or even a rant about your life studying the health professions, take a moment to share it on our blog.  Feel free to use any medium you like, whether it's photography, poetry, or prose.  You'll find that it's not only cathartic, but also a great opportunity to GET PUBLISHED and definitely something you can show off to your friends and family members.  That said, if you'd like to write about something of more personal in nature, you always have the opportunity to post anonymously.

The Munchausen - basically Yik Yak for our campus.  If you've got something funny to say, we want to hear it!

Photo of the Month - whether it's a poignant picture of our campus, or just a picture of your classmate sleeping in class, send it on over!

Bonus:  Entries submitted to "The Progress Note" may go on to be immortalized in our printed publication at the end of the year!  Now wouldn't that be a great Christmas present for your mom.

If you're interested in submitting a post, becoming a Class Representative for your graduating class, or have any questions/comments, please email us at [email protected]!

PAMED meeting INFORMATION

Tuesday, October 11 is the last day to register for the PAMED meeting. This is a great way to contribute to the development of health policy and network with doctors and students across the state. There will be over 100 medical students in attendance this year, and for the first time ever, a medical student debate. Temple participation so far is sparse, so come and represent! There is opportunity for free lodging and carpool to Hershey (email[email protected]).

If you can't make the meeting, you can check out the proposed policies (resolutions) up for debate and comment on them online, but the best way to contribute is at the meeting.
