First off, a special thanks from both the Administration and SGA to all of those who attended the renaming festivities this past week. Save the Date: Nov 4th and 7th As part of community service week (November 2nd-7th), Temple Med will be organizing the Bethune Elementary Health Fair (November 4, 1-3 PM), assisting at community engagement sites (November 4, 1-4 PM) and finishing the week with the American Heart Association Walk (November 7th, 9 AM -12:30 PM). Stay tuned for more info APAMSA (Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association) Mid Autumn Festival Celebration + Film Screening Monday 10/19/15, MERB 217, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. Come join APAMSA for a fun and relaxing lunch! We will have an abundance of delicious food from Nom Wah Dim Sum Parlor in celebration of Mid Autumn Festival (a bit late!). We will also be screening popular film "The Search for General Tso." Come join APAMSA to celebrate, eat delicious food, and watch a great film! Understanding the role of the health professional in the care of survivors of intimate partner violence. Tuesday 10/20/2015, Ginsburg Medical Library, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. 1 out of 4 U.S. women and 1 out of 14 U.S. men has been physically assaulted or raped by an intimate partner. In Pennsylvania last year there were 141 deaths related to intimate partner violence. As a medical student and soon to be physician it is vital that you know how to screen your patients for intimate partner violence and know how to help. Please join Dr. Anuradha Paranjape, Professor of Medicine and Shaina Feldman, MS-4 in the library at noon on10/20/15 for a talk on this very important topic. See you there! Temple Emergency Medicine Interest Group - EKG workshop series Tuesday 10/20/2015, MERB 319, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. Temple EMIG presents the first of a three part ECG series hosted by Dr. Wald and the emergency medicine faculty of Temple! The first installment on Wednesday 10/21 at 12 PM will consist of an introduction to ECG basics. The second on Wednesday 10/28 will be a HANDS ON session where participants will acquire each other's 12-lead ECG (40 student max based on ECG machine availability) and the third session on Wednesday 11/4 at 12 PM (no student limit) will involve students analyzing their own ECGs they acquired the week before and a few other "unknown" ECGs of different cardiac dysrhythmias! SNMA & LMSA - Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students Panel Thursday 10/22/2015, MERB 319, 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. SNMA and LMSA are hosting a mentoring panel for pre-health students at Temple. The panel will include medical, dental, and pharmacy students who will share their experiences as minorities in the health field and answer questions. Attendees will include undergrad students in the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) and the Latino Pre-Health group. Pizza will be provided. Babcock Surgical Society - Suturing and Surgical Knot Tying Workshop Thursday 10/22/2015, MERB 317, 12:00p.m.-3:00p.m. Friendly reminder for all group leaders to send any new officers to the Mandatory New Officer Meetings this week in the SFC. If you have already been to one of these in the past it is not necessary to attend.
