AMWA Event Title: AMWA Mentorship Luncheon Event Date: 11/1/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 217A/B AMWA is kicking off its new mentorship program with a lunch event, giving mentors and mentees the opportunity to meet. SEHP Event Title: JAMA with Obama Event Date: 11/1/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 219A/B This summer, Obama became the first president to have an article published in JAMA. His review of the ACA has provoked a wave of responses from economists to healthcare professionals. As budding doctors, we should be informed of the implications that come with this landmark healthcare reform bill, and improvements that can still be made. Come join SEHP during lunch to learn about and discuss Obama's JAMA article and the various responses. There will be food!! LGBTQ and Allies in Medicine Event Title: LGBT Youth Talk by Joanne Glusman Event Date: 11/2/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 217 Joanna Glusman is a medical social worker who works with many LGBT youth her practice. She was a class favorite last year for her talk on Sexual History during Doctoring ("wooden penis" may jog your memory ...). She is an incredibly entertaining speaker. Come hear her experiences working with LBGT youth, some of the adversity they face, and what we can do as healthcare providers to support this population. Non-pizza lunch. All are welcome! TEAC Event Title: Philadelphia Medical Reserve Corps Lunchtime Talk Event Date: 11/2/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM TBD Come meet Beau Sanchez, the Director of the Philadelphia Medical Reserve Corps! She will be discussing volunteer and different opportunities for involvement, with events such as the Philadelphia Marathon, the Special Olympics and more! As always lunch is provided. OWLs Event Title: Navigating M1 with Temple OWLs Event Date: 11/3/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM TBD M1s come join us for a casual lunch with the Temple OWLs! We'll be talking about our highs and lows of M1 and will have plenty of time to talk with the OWLs and get to know them. Come check out this new resource! Med Students For Choice Event Title: Family Planning Career Presentation and Manual Vacuum Aspiration Workshop Event Date: 11/3/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 217A/B Join Med Students for Choice and Dr. Stephanie Sober for a manual vacuum aspiration workshop and a presentation from Dr. Sober on her career in OBGYN and family planning. In this hands on workshop we will practice the manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) technique using papayas. MVA is a safe and easy method of providing early surgical abortion and miscarriage management. A burger bar lunch will be provided! American Medical Association Event Title: Compliance and Physician Practice: How They Intersect Event Date: 11/3/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM Event End Time: 1:00 PM MERB 317 A/B Temple's AMA has teamed up with the Honor Board to present "Compliance and Physician Practice: How They Intersect." With pressures coming from management for increased productivity coupled to ever-increasing possibility of a malpractice suit, physicians these days are caught between a rock and a hard place. Lawyer David Hoffman has dedicated his career to helping physicians stay in compliance with regulatory mandates in the face of all the other challenges of the current healthcare landscape, and will bring this breadth of experience to his discussion on how students can navigate the legal minefield that has become the future medicine. AMSA Event Title: Prescription Thugs Documentary Screening Event Date: 11/3/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 217C/D Come join Temple AMSA for a viewing of the documentary Prescription Thugs on November 3rd from 12-1PM. Prescription Thugs investigates the ethical issues surrounding the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry. The film follows director Chris Bell's journey to explore the goals of pharmaceutical companies and doctors and how that relates to the nature of addiction in our culture. Office of Student Affairs Event Title: Anatomy Donor Celebration Event Date: 11/4/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB Lobby All are invited as the LKSOM Class of 2020 expresses its appreciation for the generous donors who taught them in Gross Anatomy as no one living ever could--by subjecting themselves to dissection.
