Who are we? Big friends is a student run organization that organizes an after-school tutoring program for elementary school aged kids. The main goal of the program is to provide academic services and model positive attitudes towards learning. What will volunteers do? In general, we help students in grades 5-8 with math homework and help tutor students in math to help prepare them for upcoming PSSA evaluations. All tutoring materials will be provided by Kenderton to the volunteers and is as simple as helping students complete PSSA study workbooks. Volunteers will work with the students in small groups, typically 3-5 students/volunteer. There's usually a fun, end of the day activity that volunteers can organize for the students as well :) ***Our first tutoring session will be held on 2/16/17 and will not actually involve any tutoring but will instead be used as a Valentine's Day Meet and Greet for the students to get a chance to know the volunteers!!!*** Please consider signing up for this awesome opportunity and coming to the Valentine's Meet and Greet to get to know the Kenderton students! Where does this take place? Tutoring occurs Tuesday 3:15-4:30pm and Thursday 3:15-4:30pm @ Kenderton Elementary (across the street from Carlisle Garage). The Philadelphia Immediate Transport in Penetrating Trauma (PIPT) Trial is a randomized, prospective study attempting to determine the role of IV resuscitation and intubation in the pre-hospital course of trauma patients with gunshot or stab wounds to the thoracoabdominal region. Interestingly, retrospective evidence has demonstrated that IV resuscitation and intubation in the pre-hospital setting confers no survival advantage and may be harmful to this specific cohort of patients. In order to inform the community about this study, Dr. Maher, the primary investigator, would like to create a video to display on the website. We are looking for a medical student with experience in producing and editing videos. The time commitment shouldn't be over-burdensome. If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] regarding your interest and a brief (just a couple of sentences) comment regarding your experience with producing and editing video.
