Medical Humanities Discussion Group Event Title: Faces of Palliative Care - Documentary Screning Event Date: Tuesday 9/27/16 Event Start Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM MERB 317A/B On Sept. 27th, in MERB 219, Medical Humanities Discussion Group and Integrative Medicine Interest Group will co-host a film viewing of the documentary Vaccines: Calling the Shots, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. A growing percentage of parents have concerns about vaccinating their children and opt not to. However, this trend comes with a cost. The film reports on the recent outbreak of measles across the United States and in other countries, a disease thought to be eradicated by 2000. Yet, over 30,000 instances of measles emerged in Europe in 2011, and in the United States 2 years later. Further, we're seeing a concerning re-emergence of whooping cough, mumps, and more. Vaccines: Calling the Shots introduces viewers to the concerns of parents, and features insights from several medical professionals, emphasizing the value of open dialogue between doctors and patients, as well as the role of community education.
